Hiring Steel Bands

 

Most steel bands offer various options for events, and are usually flexible with size depending on client’s requirements.

 

Large steel bands hired for small events with limited space may be impractical, and unnecessary. Equally, small steel bands performing background instrumental steel pan music only, for large events, may be inadequate.

 

To ensure the best steel band entertainment value for your event, think carefully about the type of atmosphere you wish to create. It’s not necessarily the amount of steel pan musicians, or size of steel band, that will offer you the best entertainment value for your budget.

 

 

Hiring Steel Bands For Outdoor Events

 

Steel bands are popular entertainment during the summer period and are perfect for all outdoor events..

 

Although it may be considered easy for steel pan musicians to perform acoustically moving from location to location, the same cannot be said for steel bands consisting of guitarists, and vocalists etc...   In which case it’s preferable for steel bands to set up and perform in one location.

 

To ensure your function run smoothly, always discuss your arrangements with the steel band beforehand.  Alternatively, ask the steel band on site for their advice on what they consider to be the most suitable performance area. This will eliminate any setting, and re-setting of equipment.

 

For outdoor events, it’s advisable that steel bands are provided with adequate cover. Perfect weather conditions cannot be guaranteed, and with many steel bands consisting of electrical equipment, providing a gazebo will offer rain, and sun-glare protection, especially for steel bands performing with reflective chrome plated steel pans.

 

For functions on grass surfaces, a low level platform, or hard board surface, will offer perfect stability for steel bands when performing.  I would recommend approx 1sq meter min per musician.

 

Steel bands performing with electrical equipment, drum machines, guitars etc.. would require a standard outdoor cable, safety rated power point supply.

 

For late evening functions, steel bands should be located in a reasonably well lit area, with good audience projection. If this is not possible, low level outdoor lighting creating a perfect ambience, is not only useful to steel pan musicians operating electrical equipment, but will also provide a perfect atmosphere between the band, and your guests.

 

Steel bands performing out of vision, with no cover, or lighting, and away from guests, does nothing to enhance their performance. Performing is a two way thing, and steel bands love to be seen as well as heard, and always appreciate the reaction from an audience.
